MARIO MARINO’S THE MANIMAL, IS DESCRIBED AS HAVING THE AGGRESSIVE, DESPERATE ENERGY OF A BEST NOT MAN, BUT NOT QUITE ANIMAL
The Manimal is the aggressive, desperate energy of a beast not man, not quite animal. The unholy unison is juxtaposed by a guitar solo that speaks to a shred of hope… What is that hope? That’s for you to decide.
Instead of focusing on genres, maybe we should always work to combine and tie them together. In The Manimal, Alternative Metal artist, Jonathan Hadley, joins traditionally Electronic and Chip-Wave artist Mario Marino to build something special. Mario’s primary label is Only the Label, but he has also been an integral part of the Abrasive Monologues creative team since its inception and frequently joins in on Abrasive driven projects.
This time, Abrasive Monologues’ Jonathan Hadley has an opportunity to return the favor for Mario Marino’s monthly music challenge entry, The Manimal. The song features the iconic Electronic styling of Mario Marino backed by the distinctive tension laden guitars of Hadley.
Mario is a good friend and one of my favorite people on top of being an incredible artist. He didn’t have to ask me to join in on his project, but I’m very glad he did. I’m very proud of what we created.
The combination results in a genre defying, driving and powerful tune that conveys the aggressive energy of a beast not man, but not quite animal. The interplay between the electronic instruments and the guitars gives the song a tangible tension between the energies of the man… and the animal. The post production was done by Mario Marino with some pointers from Hadley on mixing in the guitars, and the song feels truly massive when heard on stereo speakers.
One reason I love Mario Marino as an artist is the way he thinks about music. He, like myself, is less focused on complexity or technicality and more focused on the way things sound together. He always adds such depth to anything he touches.
