I have to agree with both of those. Redux Vol 1 walks the listener through genres, decades, and textures. There is something on this record for everyone. To me, in this EP, the range of styles really stood out. I am familiar with many of these artists, and each of them blend flawlessly with the songs they are featured on.
The EP starts with Firefly, ft. Louisa. Firefly, is an easy listening track, with old school vibes. I wouldn’t define it as electronic, as much as an easy listening classic for a modern age. The EP moves seamlessly along to alternative rock with Soldiers featuring the genre defying vocals of John Serrano, then even further onward to full on rock with Manic featuring the guitar and vocals of Kanilrós (We love Kanilrós, for reasons…), before transitioning again to the melodic One in Every Crowd, featuring some excellent guitar work that I quickly fell in love with.
The album smoothly transitions to the epic electronic vibes of Most Epic Dream and Moss Cottage for Sunrise in the Evening – Moss Cottage Remix, one of two Sunrise in the Evening remixes represented on the EP.
Louisa makes another appearance in Microfibre for an 80s style pop tune with a slight Madonna-ish vibe, before the EP slips into a notably warmer vibe with Magnesium Helps featuring The Decibel Cartel. Magnesium Helps has some great, energetic melodic work in the upper register supplemented by a variety of growling synth accents as you proceed down the scale coupled with punchy percussion to keep it dancing until the very last second.
The Redux Vol 1 EP is rounded out by the brightly toned version of Sunrise in the Evening ft. ZENBLASTER. The tones in the second version are much louder, brighter and enveloping than the Moss Cottage version. It’s as if they were intended to represent to halves of a whole. I don’t know if it was planned that way, but it works very well.
